Hello and welcome to Opal Exporter. My name is Amanuel and I’m an “opalholic”
My story begins in 2008 when I was introduced to the mesmerizing world of opals through a close friend of mine. At that time, Ethiopia was already producing ‘Chocolate opals” from the Mezezzo area. That was the first opal that placed the country on the opal map. Unfortunately, it was short-lived because most of the opals from the area crazed, cracked and were not stable.
The discovery of opals in the Welo region in 2008 changed everything and I was there to witness the buzz it created among opal vendors at gem shows.
Since then I had a chance to atend major gem shows in the US, Europe and Asia, meet opal lovers, jewelers, show organizers, dealers and more. It also gave me a chance to travel places I have never imagined, learn polishing classes and also teach others and share my Welo opal expertise with many people.
I built this website to make it easy for opal buyers, jewelers and collectors source their opals directly from the source any time of the year from the comfort of their home and without the need to travel to Ethiopia or to gem shows.
