Hello and welcome to Opal Exporter. My name is Amanuel and I’m an “opalholic”

My story begins in 2008 when I was introduced to the mesmerizing world of opals through a close friend of mine. At that time, Ethiopia was already producing  ‘Chocolate opals” from the Mezezzo area. That was the first opal that placed the country on the opal map. Unfortunately, it was short-lived because most of the opals from the site were crazed, cracked, and not stable.  

The discovery of opals in the Welo region in 2008 changed everything and I was there to witness the buzz it created among opal vendors at gem shows.

Since then I had a chance to attend major gem shows in the US, Europe, and Asia, and meet opal lovers, jewelers,  show organizers, dealers, and more. It also gave me a chance to travel to places I have never imagined, learn polishing classes and also teach others and share my Welo opal expertise with many people.

I  built this website to make it easy for opal buyers, jewelers, and collectors to source their opals directly from the source any time of the year from the comfort of their homes and without the need to travel to Ethiopia or to gem shows.
