About The Munich Show
The Munich Show 2022 edition was held last September at Messe Munchen, Germany from 30th September until 2nd of October, 2022. It is a show like no other in Europe featuring gemstones, jewelry, minerals, and fossils. I had the opportunity to return back to the show after some hiatus due to cancelations and travel restrictions. My take on the overall performance, exhibits, lectures and attendance is here.
As always o was looking forward to the show. This is a not to be missed event of the year as a gem dealer and I took time to prepare as much as I can even though securing Welo opals worthy of my clients was hard due to the heavy two months long rainy season as most of the miners go back to farming their land. The Munich show happens once a year and it is an indispensable trading platform for exhibitors from all over the world.
Hundreds of exhibitors presented their best gemstones, fossils, minerals, and Jewelry to visitors with numerous interests including school children who are eager to pick a piece or two for their classroom activity or personal collections.
Reason for low attendance
Due to some technical reasons, the Munich gem show 2022 was held in September rather than October as it used to be. Furthermore, it landed on the same date as the infamous Munich Oktoberfest. This has created a crazy surge in hotel prices and led to small visitor numbers. Imagine how many people look forward to a great event like Octoberfest that returned for the first time after the pandemic. Usually, there would have been a huge number of visitors during the first and second dates of the show. This year that was not the case. Personally, I’m not disappointed at all. I am glad I returned back to the show and met my former clients and fellow exhibitors safely after the pandemic. I’m also glad I had the chance to travel again and enjoy the mind-blowing world of geology, geology, arts, crafts, discoveries, and more.
On my stand at Hall A5, Booth z77 under my gem show brand “Mani Opals”, I showcased all sorts of Ethiopian Welo Opals. It was not bad at all. It gave me the opportunity to reintroduce myself as a trustworthy Ethiopian Welo Opal supplier based in Ethiopia that can deliver opals directly from the source in the shortest time possible. It also gave me an opportunity to meet some of my former clients and also forge new ones.
On the last day of the show, the announcer disclosed that the Munich show 2023 edition will be held in October. Every exhibitor was happy and relieved. I bet attendants too because changing a travel schedule is such a headache for many. Hopefully, I will have the chance to attend the 2023 show with opals and other gemstones from Ethiopia.
